How to tell if a photo has location data

Drop the photo into the box above. If it contains GPS coordinates, you will see them highlighted along with a link to the spot on a map. If the box says the photo is clean, there is no location stored in the file.

Phones add the location when the camera app has permission to use it. On iPhone this is under Settings, Privacy & Security, Location Services, Camera. On Android it is usually a “Save location” switch in the camera app settings.

    How it works

    1. Drop your photosPick photos or drag them into the box. They are read on your device.
    2. See what is insideLocation, device, date and other hidden details are listed for each photo.
    3. Download clean copiesRemove the metadata and save copies that look exactly the same.

    When removing location matters most

    • Selling something online with photos taken at home.
    • Sending photos of your kids, your car or your house to people you do not know well.
    • Posting on forums, blogs or your own website, which often keep the original file.
    • Sharing originals through email or cloud links.

The tool removes the coordinates together with the rest of the hidden data (date, device, serial numbers), since those can also point back to you.

    Questions

Can I remove only the location and keep the date?

Not yet. The tool removes all personal metadata at once, which is the safest default. Keeping selected fields is on the list for a future update.

    Do screenshots have a location?

Usually not. Screenshots rarely contain GPS data, but they can still include the device model and date. Drop one in to check.

Will the person I send it to see that I removed it?

No. The photo simply has no location, like a photo taken with location switched off.

Does this work on my phone?

Yes. Open the page in your phone’s browser, tap the box, pick a photo and download the clean copy.
