Convert HEIC to JPG on your device

Turn iPhone HEIC photos into JPGs that open everywhere. The conversion runs in your browser, so your photos are never uploaded, and the location hidden in each photo is removed unless you choose to keep it.

How to convert HEIC to JPG

    1. Add your HEIC photosDrag them into the box or tap Choose photos. Nothing is uploaded.
    2. ConvertEach photo is decoded on your device and saved as a high-quality JPG, the right way up.
    3. DownloadSave each JPG, or with Pro, convert a whole folder and download one ZIP.

What HEIC is, and why it will not open

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the format iPhones and iPads use for photos by default. It keeps good quality at about half the file size of JPG, but many programs still cannot open it: older versions of Windows, many websites and upload forms, online stores, and some photo editors.

Converting to JPG gives you a file that opens everywhere. The JPG is a little larger than the HEIC, which is normal.

    Private by design

Most online converters upload your photos to their servers to convert them. This one does the work inside your browser with a WebAssembly build of libheif, the open-source HEIC decoder. Once the page has loaded, you can switch off your internet and it still works.

iPhone photos also store where they were taken. By default the JPG leaves out the location, date, phone model and the other hidden details. If you are converting photos for your own archive and want to keep them, tick Keep date, camera and location before converting.

    Quality and colors

    • Quality: photos are saved as JPG at 92% quality, which is visually the same as the original for normal viewing and printing.
    • Colors: iPhone photos use the wide Display P3 color space. The JPG keeps the same color profile, so colors look the same as in your Photos app.
    • Rotation: the photo is saved upright, so it is not shown sideways in other apps.
    • Live Photos and bursts: the main still image is converted.

Stop your iPhone from making HEIC files

If you want JPGs in the future, open Settings, Camera, Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos will be saved as JPG. When you share from the Photos app, iOS also usually sends a JPG copy automatically.

    Questions

    Are my photos uploaded?

No. The HEIC decoder runs inside your browser. Your photos never leave your device.

    Is the JPG lower quality?

JPG is a different format, so the picture is encoded again, at 92% quality. For viewing, sharing and printing it looks the same as the HEIC.

Can I keep the date the photo was taken?

Yes. Tick Keep date, camera and location before converting. The date, camera and location are then copied into the JPG. By default they are removed for privacy.

How do I open HEIC files on Windows?

Windows needs an extra codec from the Microsoft Store to open HEIC. Converting the photos to JPG here avoids that and gives you files that open in any app.

How many photos can I convert?

Up to three at a time for free, as many times as you like. Pro is a one-time payment that converts any number at once and downloads them as a single ZIP.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes, in a recent version of Safari, Chrome, Edge or Firefox. Very large photos are easier to convert on a computer.
